“Walk By” Video (August 26, 2018)
As we kind of consider ourselves “bee foster parents” we will occasionally just poke our heads into the apiary and check on the girls from time to time (usually 4 to 5 times a week), sometimes more, sometimes less. We don’t actually go into the hive each time because we would just assume NOT to tear up comb, break propolis seals and stress them out, so we just have a casual, “hands off” look to see how they are doing. We like to see all of the different colored pollen they are bring in as well as observe their activity. This is a video I shot about 3:30 in the afternoon.
The girls are on what is known as a “cleansing flight.” A “cleansing flight” is a polite way of saying that the girls are going outside the hive to take a bathroom break. Bees are very hygienic insects and do not go the the bathroom inside the hive.
