Bees are interesting creatures and I just can’t
go more than a few days without looking in on them. Today I walked by an observed a phenomenon called bearding. The bees usually try to keep the internal temperature of the hive around 96 degrees. Much warmer than that and the wax will start to melt. Bearding usually takes place when the bees, by being inside the hive will raise the temperature, so they just hang out near the entrance of the hive. Sometimes you can see some bees at the entrance fanning their wings to increase air flow in the hive. I have also posted here videos of bees just being bees in June.
